What is the 12-3-30 workout, and does it work?

Question: What is the 12-3-30 workout, and does it work?

Good question. The answer is:

The 12-3-30 workout is a stupidly simple (in a good way) workout routine that Lauren Giraldo created for herself.

(Who is Lauren Giraldo, you ask? I had  the same reaction when I read this question. So I did a little digging — she’s a social media personality with no fitness credentials.)

Every morning, Lauren hops on the treadmill and performs the exact same workout:

Incline: 12

Speed: 3 mph

Time: 30 minutes

So, does the 12-3-30 workout work?

Yes, but probably not for the reason you think. As Lauren explains herself, the workout isn’t based on any revolutionary science. In fact, it isn’t really based on anything.

Here’s how she came up with it:

12 was the max incline on her treadmill. 3 miles per hour was a sustainable walking pace for her. 30 minutes was a vague number she recalled hearing was a good amount of exercise per day.

Lauren simply found a way to make exercise simple and habitual. Every morning, her body executes the same routine. Incline? 12. Speed? 3 mph. Time? 30 minutes. There is nothing for her to think about. Most importantly — there is no decision for her to make.

The real breakthrough here is that Lauren found her catalyst. She found a simple morning routine that yields her a disproportionate return on investment. Lauren explains that the benefits of this workout routine were actually more mental than physical. In other words, it made her feel better. This led to her making better decisions throughout the day, and eventually dropping 30 pounds!

So, do I recommend the 12-3-30 workout for you?

I’d actually recommend a shorter but more effective workout routine, called The P.A.U.L. Method. It works for the same reason that Lauren’s workout did (i.e. simplicity), but it takes only 10 minutes and includes cardio, abs, upper body, and lower body. In other words, it’ll get you the biggest bang for your buck. It’s helped thousands of busy professionals make fitness a daily habit, and it can help you too. Here’s the link to get it for free:
